This page lists some acne myths from around the world. I will continue updating the myths over time as I discover them:

  • Myth: Acne is caused by poor hygiene. Truth: While poor skin care can trigger acne breakouts, poor hygiene is not a common cause as some people will want to make you believe.
  • Myth: Acne is caused by masturbation and lack of or excess of sexual intercourse. Truth: Sex has nothing to do with acne.
  • Myth: Popping acne lesions makes them heal faster. Truth: On the contrary, this practice only makes the condition worse not to mention increase the risk of scarring.
  • Myth: Washing the face frequently helps to get rid of oils and thus heal acne. Truth: You shouldn’t wash your face too frequently if you suffer from acne as this will only dry your skin and increase sebum production which may then worsen the condition.
